The home

Bright, airy, and set up for the good life by the water.

This is a home for the grateful surfer, the kindly nomad, and anyone who just seeks happiness. It sits right on the waterfront, with a living room that takes the light all day and a balcony that looks over the park and out to the break.

It comes complete with a quiver of surfboards on request, a bodyboard, beach chairs, a Coolcabana beach tent, and a council sticker for your car. Come back from a surf, rinse off, and settle in: there's a Samsung "The Frame" TV, a record player with a wall of records, an espresso machine, and good books to see out the evening.

An offering for the grateful surfer, the kindly nomad, or those who just seek happiness. And great furniture.

Practical things are handled. A brand-new fridge with a cold-water dispenser, a new microwave, electronic blinds, a gas cooktop, and a proper kitchen you can cook for people in. White Waves is a lift building and the home is on the third floor, with a dedicated parking space in the lot and Lime Bikes dotted around the neighbourhood.

The location

Freshwater is the beach Sydney locals move to and don't leave.

One headland north of Manly, on the same ocean strip, but quieter. Duke Kahanamoku rode the first surfboard in Australia off this sand in 1915, which is what makes it the most historically poignant surfing beach in the country, and it has stayed pleasantly unbothered ever since.

View through Norfolk Island pines to the ocean at Freshwater Beach

The park is the front yard. Directly across the road, with the beach path running through it and down to the sand, patrolled swimming, and a break that works most of the year.

The village is three minutes on foot. Cafes, a bakery, a bottle shop, a pub and a grocer. Daily life here doesn't need a car.

The buses leave from the block. The 165X express runs to the CBD, the 199 to Manly, and the 167 to Westfield Warringah Mall, all a two-minute walk away.

Manly is a walk, not a drive. Ten minutes over the headland track brings you to Manly, the Corso, and the ferry to Circular Quay, the best commute in the city by a distance.

  • Professionals in town for workWanting an ocean-side home for the length of a posting, with the express bus to the office at the door.
